Out with the Old, in with the New – A Timely Reminder From June 2009!
One of the prominent aspects in the astrology of 2009 is the interaction between Saturn in Virgo and Uranus in Pisces. These two outer planets form an opposition with each other for most of the year. This aspect became exact on the date of the US presidential elections of last year, again in February and once again forms an exact conjunction in September. But, an opposition need not be exact to be powerful.
We can become aware of the impact of this planetary relationship by taking a look at key events in the world at large, and indeed within our own lives.
On the global level, we have been witnessing old structures dissolving due to a challenge to their integrity. A financial scandal in the UK has brought about the resignation of many members of Parliament and caused Gordon Brown’s position as Prime Minister to come under close scrutiny. A conflict over the presidential elections in Iran threatens to blow into a full blown revolution. Many banks and large corporations are beginning to fold.
These can all be seen to be effects of this planetary opposition. But, truth be known, there are also other factors which are making this astrology even more potent.
A concept that is common in Vedic astrology, but little spoken of in tropical astrology, is how a planet that rules a specific sign can be impacted by transits to the sign that it rules.
Pluto, the planet of transformation, is transiting Capricorn, which is ruled by Saturn. Pluto’s transit of Capricorn, in itself, is a factor strong enough to cause old power structures to come crumbling down.
Neptune, Jupiter and an asteroid known as Chiron are forming a tight conjunction in Aquarius, which is ruled by Uranus. It should be noted, however, that the previous ruler of Aquarius was Saturn.
This triple conjunction can serve to shift our focus towards lifestyles that are more sustainable to the planet and to humanity. We are, in a sense, in the midst of a spiritual revolution (Uranus in Pisces).
So, we have seen what is transpiring on the global level during this opposition. But, what does this all mean on the individual level? In my opinion, we are being asked to reflect upon whether or not we are indeed aligned with the unique purpose that we are each put here for. We are being asked to be more creative in altering our own lives to bring ourselves into harmony with the changes that are going on globally.
One of the ways that I have witnessed this taking place is that as the old, huge corporations dissolve, many independent small businesses are being formed. This model is one which can be more sustaining as those less fortunate financially, and therefore more likely to suffer during a recession can be given an opportunity to thrive either through the creation of their own businesses, or through new jobs that arise through the formation of businesses formed by others.
We are also being faced with a unique opportunity to become more self governing as the old, stale forms of government that fed the pockets of the powermongers, are now dissolving. Power is being taken from the hands of the few, and being distributed to the many. The potential for a stronger world society now exists.
We have shirked responsibility for our own actions, and indeed our own choices for far too long and have placed this responsibility and its inherent power in the hands of those we thought capable of wielding it wisely. Now, we are finding out that this has not been the case.
This is an exciting transformative time which we are now witnessing. The potential for mass evolution is strong. We are now in the process doing away with that which no longer works for humanity, and undergoing a process of self discovery. A new life awaits.
