Astrological Profiles of Prominence – Stevie Wonder

Young Stevie

‘Just because a man lacks the use of his eyes doesn’t mean he lacks vision.’ Stevie Wonder

These words were spoken by a man who not only has vision, but also deep Self-Understanding. Stevie Wonder was born at 4:20 pm in Saginaw Michigan on 13th May, 1950. Although not visible, Neptune was highly influential as it was approaching the horizon at his time of birth.

The sign of Libra is Stevie’s ascendant, and Neptune is within 2 degrees of his rising sign. A retrograde planet can be highly potent in a chart. It moves with a relevance of speed, that in proportion to the Earth’s own orbital velocity, causes it to shine more brightly, thereby creating the astrological phenomenon of becoming more prominent, although its effect is internal in influence, rather than external.

‘Sometimes, I feel I am really blessed to be blind because I probably would not last a minute if I were able to see things.’– Stevie Wonder

Neptune can be understood as the planet that obscures the external, creating the perception of illusion in regards to the material plane whilst it gives its blessing to the Realm of Spiritual Insight, Imagination and Inspiration. Stevie may lack the vision of his physical eyes. But his Imagination, Creativity and Insight received what would ordinarily have been projected outwards and quite possibly entranced in the Illusion of the Material.

Neptune Retrograde in Libra is the hallmark of a philanthropist with a profound understanding of suffering. Stevie’s depth of giving is through his music. The Lunar Mansion of Hasta, where Mr. Wonder’s Neptune is placed, feeds the creative will with the insight of how to best harness the resources available.  Stevie’s Neptune gives not only the propensity for profound Imagination, but also the ability to channel it into the physical plane through painting an illustrious picture upon the canvas of his songs.

When filled with the spark of inspiration, Stevie is quite likely not to take care of himself as vitally as he should. Two other planets important to the artistic process, the Moon and Venus, form an opposition to Neptune and his Ascendant. The Moon and Venus are placed in the sign of Aries, denoting a passion for creating. Their light exudes strength to Neptune across the zodiac. But, with the Moon in the Lunar Mansion of Revati, Stevie likely involves himself so profoundly in the process, both in a physical and also an emotional manner, that he becomes depleted. With Venus in Uttara Bhadrapada, he has a strong desire to approach his work as something that can be of benefit to humanity. He has been known to be supportive of philanthropic causes through live performances. But on another level, he likely becomes depleted through the pouring of his soul into his work.

When one or more of the senses cease to function as a window to the external, they become more profoundly heightened in an internal manner. With sharp awareness, also heightened by a conjunction between the Sun and retrograde Mercury in the Lunar Mansion of Krittika, associated with Light and Purification, Stevie is acutely empathic to the level that he likely suffers due to his sensitivity.

‘Sometimes, I feel I am really blessed to be blind because I probably would not last a minute if I were able to see things.’
