How an Exalted Saturn that is Combust Behaves
Jodie posted this as a comment to one of my Saturn posts and I thought it would make excellent material for an Academy Forum post.
‘How will Saturn fair if it is exalted but also nashta? does being nashta cancel out the exaltation to some degree? i am thinking it will, but to how much will it affect Saturn. Will it depend on the dignity of the sun also?’
First thing to consider is the Deeptaadi Avastha of Saturn. Due to being exalted, Saturn is in Deepta Avastha, meaning radiant. So in terms of the Rasi Chart, any houses which may become somewhat problematic for Saturn do not cause Saturn to feel as down emotionally due to the feeling being generated by Saturn’s Deepta state. Saturn’s houses will be impacted, nonetheless. I like to think of planets that are Nashta as representing areas of life that it is almost as if we have an ‘allergy’ to them. They simply do not work as well. The debilitated Sun indicates an area of life (whatever the Sun is a karaka for and whatever houses are in Leo) in which we have less self assurance. Whatever Saturn rules will be impacted by the Sun’s lack of self-assurance causing Saturn to have to work all the harder to maintain a sense of constancy in the areas of his rulership. Being exalted, he can do it, but the Nashta impact creates frustration in that regard. In short, the exalted Saturn can succeed, but at a cost. Hope that helps to clarify.
